Cage setup recommendations for parrots and parakeets


Cages, enclosures, and set ups we have for our parrots.
Choosing an appropriate cage for a parrot can make a big difference. We actually don’t want to think of it as a cage. It’s an enclosure, a happy place, a safe space, and a home for the parrot.

Tips for picking a nice enclosure for birds:

· big and spacious
· proper bar spacing
· sturdy
· easy access (large door, access to food dishes)
· easy to clean
· safe material or coating


Parrot cage set up should have a variety of perches, toys, and enrichment opportunities.

This is a large Aluminum King’s Cage ACA 3325. This cage is great for medium sized parrots such as Greys, Amazons, and smaller Cockatoos.

Kili, our Senegal parrot, has a medium Aluminum King's Cage ACA 2522. It's a similar cage but less wide with smaller bar spacing, which makes it great for smaller birds, such as Conures, Senegals, Cockatiels, Pionus, Ringnecks, or Caiques.

Most parrot cages come in one of three materials: iron, aluminum, or stainless steel. Iron cages are normally painted or powder coated and are the most common type of cage. Stainless Steel is known for its corrosion resistance, anti-bacterial properties, cleanability, and elegance. However, Stainless Steel cages are extremely expensive. Anodized Aluminum cages are a great middle ground of not rusting, looking great, light weight, and no paint/powder coat to chip. Aluminum cages are no longer produced unfortunately.

1/2" Bar Spacing - Budgie, Parrotlet, Lovebird, Bourke's Parakeet

5/8" Bar Spacing - Conure, Quaker, Ringneck, Senegal, Caique, Pionus, Hahn's Macaw, Jardine's Parrot, Timneh African Grey, Galah

3/4" Bar Spacing - Cape Parrot, African Grey, Amazons, Small Cockatoos

1" Bar Spacing - Large Cockatoos, Macaws

1-1/2" Bar Spacing - Green Winged Macaw, Hyacinth Macaw


This is our awesome Deluxe Cage for Small Parrots. This cage is very spacious! It is one of the biggest cages with proper bar spacing for smaller parrots. This is a wonderful enclosure for Quakers, Caiques, Senegals, Conures, and other parrots of this size!

It's so big, the Quaker looks small in it. He can even do short flights between the perches. This is a Playtop version.

This cage also comes as a Dometop which has even more room. The Dometop version is huge for small parrots or a suitable size for medium parrots.
